The Twilight Journey follows the same path as the Bay to Beach tour but with the addition of nature’s amazing sunset light show. We start off with some basic training and gliding around on the grass at Matiatia Bay to get to grips with the Segways. Once everyone is feeling confident with their new skills we head into the bush to wind our way through native trees and flax plants, cruising through the shaded areas covered with the famous silver ferns of New Zealand.
We zip up the hill, past some of the tasty grape vines, to the summit of Atawai Whenua Reserve where we do a bit of gliding round the hillside and gently make our way through the back streets of Oneroa Village across Alison Park to our next destination. A few winding streets eventually lead us to the roller-coaster hills, some incredible homes and views out across the surrounding islands and gulf. Pause to take in those views before it’s back down the hilly streets to Oneroa beach where you can relax and cruise parts of the shoreline. While you’re chilling out along the dunes check out some of the beautiful homes along the foreshore. Keep an eye out for dolphins or orcas playing in the bay.
We now start to make our way back through the streets, parks and up the hill to the romantic Mudbrick Vineyard and the magnificent Cable Bay Vineyard where some of the best wine producers in the world bring to life the fruit vital to their hand-crafted wines. Stop off at Cable Bay, check out the menus (the wood fired pizzas are fantastic) and pause for some Segway selfies and a group photo with the vineyard, gorgeous coastline, Auckland cityscape, the ocean and of course that amazing sunset. Chasing the setting sun, we visit the romantic Mudbrick Vineyard renowned for their amazing food and striking views. Mudbrick is a firm favourite with visitors who ‘tie the knot’ on the Island.
By now the sun will be on its way to bed as it crawls over the Auckland landscape with the striking Waitakere Ranges in the background. Mudbrick or Cable Bay can be your final stop of the Journey for those who wish to indulge in the delicacies from the kitchens of either Vineyard. Stay for a while and enjoy amazing food and perhaps a wine or two. Alternatively, you can choose to continue back down to Matiatia Ferry Terminal where you can catch your ferry home or collect your car to continue your own journey.
